What Each Measurement Means
Every figure on this page is explained below, with how to take it yourself using a soft tape measure — either on your body, or on a similar garment laid flat and doubled.
Chest
Full circumference around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. On a garment: measure armpit to armpit, then double it.
Body Length
From the centre-back collar seam straight down to the bottom hem of the garment, laid flat.
Sleeve Length
From the centre-back collar seam, across the shoulder and down the outer arm, to the end of the cuff.
Shoulder Width
Straight line across the back, from the tip of one shoulder seam to the tip of the other.
Waist
Full circumference around your natural waistline, where the waistband normally sits. Keep the tape relaxed, not pulled tight.
Hips
Full circumference around the fullest part of your hips and seat, roughly 20cm below your natural waist.
Inseam
From the crotch seam straight down the inner leg to the bottom of the leg opening.
Outer Length
From the top of the waistband down the outer seam to the hem, used for shorts and trousers.

Size Guide FAQs
Do Essentials hoodies run big or small?
Essentials hoodies are designed with an oversized, boxy fit, and the chest figures in the chart already include that extra room. Size up further for an even more relaxed look, or order your usual size for a regular fit.
Why is the chest measurement so much bigger than my actual body size?
Because it's a full circumference measurement of the garment, not your body, and it already builds in the oversized ease Essentials is known for. Use the "Which Size Fits My Body" table above to translate it to your own measurements.
What size should I order for the true Essentials oversized look?
Most customers order one size up from their regular fit, for example a usual Medium takes a Large, to get the dropped shoulder and roomy body Essentials is known for.
How do I measure a hoodie I already own to compare?
Lay it flat, then measure chest armpit to armpit and double it, body length from the centre-back collar to the hem, and sleeve length from the centre-back collar to the cuff. Compare to the chart above.
Are Essentials Hoodie Australia sizes the same as US and EU sizing?
Yes. The chart uses standard unisex US/EU/AU letter sizing from XXS to XXXL, shown in both centimetres and inches.
What if I am between two sizes?
For an oversized fit, choose the larger size. For a closer, regular fit, choose the smaller size. Check the chest measurement first, since it has the biggest effect on how the fit looks.
